How do I connect Inventory ONE to Telematic ONE?
The telematics connection links your Telematic ONE account to Inventory ONE. Once connected, you can assign GPS trackers to your inventory and see the locations of your equipment on maps. You set up the connection once per account in the system settings.
Prerequisites- The telematics connection is booked for your account. Without the booking the section does not appear. Contact our support to book it.
- You have a Telematic ONE account whose package includes API access.
- Your role has the permission Manage telematics connection in the Telematics area. Administrators have it by default.
- In Telematic ONE, under API keys, you have created a key with the scopes trackers:read and positions:read. Telematic ONE shows the key only once, so copy it right away.
- How to sign in to Telematic ONE, register trackers and create the key is described in the guide Getting started in Telematic ONE, which Telematic ONE links on its start page after you sign in. The technical description of the interface for your developers is available at app.telematic.one/api-docs; the wizard links it as well.
- Open Settings → System settings and select Telematics connection on the left.
- Click Set up connection. A wizard guides you through four steps.
- Provider: Telematic ONE is currently supported and already selected. The provider address is preconfigured, you do not need to enter a URL.
- Credentials: Paste the API key from Telematic ONE. Use the eye icon to show the key and check it.
- Test connection: Click Test connection. Inventory ONE asks Telematic ONE for the trackers of your account and shows how many were found. If the test fails, you see the reason, for example an invalid or expired key or missing scopes. You can only continue after a successful test.
- Summary: Check the provider, the address, the beginning of the key and the number of trackers, then click Save connection.
After saving, the section shows the details of the connection: provider, address, the beginning of the key, the time of the last successful check and the number of assigned trackers. Inventory ONE never shows the full key again.
Testing the connectionUse Test connection at any time to check whether the stored key still works. A successful test updates the time of the last check. If it fails, the error message stays visible in the section until a test succeeds again.
Changing the keyIf you created a new key in Telematic ONE, for example because the old one expires or was revoked, click Change key. The wizard starts directly at the credentials, then you test the connection and save. Your tracker assignments remain in place.
DisconnectingDisconnect removes the link to Telematic ONE. All tracker assignments are ended, and Inventory ONE shows you the number before you confirm. Locations and maps are no longer visible afterwards. You can set up the connection again at any time.
Tracker overviewOnce connected, Administration → Trackers lists all trackers of your Telematic ONE account: name, identifier (IMEI and serial number), status (online, offline or disabled), last contact, the current position with a note whether it is current or the last known one, the kind of assignment (inventory item, set or unassigned) and the assigned inventory. Clicking the row of an assigned tracker opens the inventory's detail page. As in the inventory overview, narrow the list with the table search and the filters in the column headers, for example by status or assignment, and download the table as CSV. The page reloads every minute. Only roles with the permission "Manage telematics connection" see the page; the permission "See trackers and locations" applies to the inventory detail page and the dashboard map, and "Assign trackers" is additionally required for assigning and removing trackers in the tracker overview. Trackers on inventory in business units not assigned to you are not shown. How to assign a tracker to an inventory item or set is described in How do I assign a GPS tracker to an inventory item or set?.
Location and overview map in the appThe mobile app shows the trackers too: the detail page of an inventory item or set has a Location section with a map, the coordinates and the time of the last update. In addition, the app shows an overview map of all equipment with a tracker; tapping a marker opens the detail page of the inventory item. Both only appear if the telematics connection is booked and set up and your role has the permission See trackers and locations: with the level "Own" you see the trackers on inventory assigned to you, with "All" the trackers on all inventory you are allowed to see. The app does not show unassigned trackers. Assigning and removing trackers is only possible in the web application.
What is storedInventory ONE stores only the connection itself and the assignment of trackers to your inventory. Positions and other telemetry are fetched live from Telematic ONE whenever they are displayed and are not stored in Inventory ONE. Every change to the connection is recorded in your account's change log, without the key.
PrivacyThe maps on the web use Google Maps. When a map is displayed, your browser loads the map data directly from Google's servers, which transmits your IP address to Google. Every map therefore shows Google's notices at the bottom edge of the map. The app uses map tiles from OpenStreetMap, which it loads directly from the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (notice "© OpenStreetMap contributors"). Details are in the Inventory ONE privacy policy.
The position data of a tracker can be personal data if the inventory item or set is assigned to a person, for example a vehicle with a fixed driver or a tool an employee uses permanently. Inform the people concerned and check before use whether your organisation needs an agreement for this. Role permissions define who may see locations (see What roles are there?).
